A carrier who brings valuable goods from foreign to Chennai is colloquially is called Kuruvi and Vijay plays this role in Kuruvi. Carrying valuable diamonds from Malaysia Vijay drops it in the car of Lollu Sabha fame comedian Jeeva…As of now, these are the interesting facts we have got for you and if this isn’t enough, catch out for more on Kollywood Today – the best hub to get all that you need on Tamil Cinema…

Vijay’s next, another remake?
Vijay’s next film, to be directed by prabhu Deva, is slated to be yet another remake. But this time, it could be a remake of the Bollywood blockbuster Soldier which had Bobby Deol and priety Zinda in the lead. The female lead of the probable Tamil version of this movie will be Nayantara. Shooting is slated to take place in New Zealand around June of this year. The news has not yet been confirmed officially. The last time Prabhu Deva and Vijay teamed up for Pokkiri, it turned out to be a big hit. So the expectations will be high this time.

Dandana Darna
Who is this new singer? It is better that a new singer sings what can be classified as the “intro song” for Vijay in Kuruvi. An established singer could invite comparisons to his previous songs (or if he had already sung an intro for song, that’s it!). But Sangeeth turns out to be the new “intro rocker” for Vijay and the voice fits in seamlessly with that of Vijay’s personality. The start to the song can be classified as a typical high energy start, and it is expected that Vijay fans in the theatre will practice a few dancing steps at home to show off to their Vijay fan friends in the theatre. The lyrics are typically powerful hitting and special applause must be given to the lyricist for giving such powerful lyrics to the song. The “Thaarai Thappattai” in the song has been used to full effect and adds huge mass to the song. The pace of the song is not consistent which is typical of Dharani - Vidyasagar songs and it leaves the fans thirsting for more when the end of the song approaches.Up: Fan’s delight. Best time to vent all your happiness offDown: Ends quickly… We need more, don’t we?Vijay Fan Rating: 1000/10 | Neutral Fan’s Rating: 7/10

Happy New Year – Yogi B
One of the most hyped songs of the album due to the leak of information about Yogi B’s presence in the song (Yogi B sang the recent hit song “Engeyum Eppodhum” in Pollathavan). Yogi B is known for his Tamil rap style songs and he continues in the same vein with some rocking local Tamil lyrics. Sunidhi Chauhan also makes an excellent start to the song and adds a lot of energy to the song (Sunidhi’s Tamil pronunciation is awesome despite being a North Indian popular singer; she also sang ‘Sha La La’ in Ghilli). Once again, the lyrics stand out in powerful measure. Check out some of these lines“Singakutty sutha thanga katty, solla pona avan Ilayathalapathy”“Vaikaasi vedi vedicha Sivakaasi Thirupachi….”The pace of the song almost follows the lines of “Kokkara Kokkarako” but you can barely get this resemblance unless you are a hardcore audiophile (who looks for the minutest of details in a song!). The song has a rocking and speedy end that aptly sums up the mood of the fans while watching this songUp: Sunidhi Chauhan’s rendition, Yogi B’s youthful energyDown: Not for the too old people… Heavily youth oriented Vijay Fan Rating: 9.5/10 | Neutral Fan’s Rating: 6/10

Mozha Mozhannu - Anuradha Sriram
The “Ghilli” mega singers team of Kay Kay and Anuradha Sriram are back (Remember the evergreen Appadi Podu?). This folk type song packs a great punch and is another in the list of “Vijay Fans Delight”. This song will send the theatres into heavy doses of whistles. Vidyasagar has a proven track record at these types of songs and doesn’t falter even a little bit with his performance. Both singers are in full form and more than give the required energy needed for this type of songUp: Dance aada ready ah? Adichu Dhool kelappu….Down: Lyrics are heavily mass, which could keep the neutrals awayVijay Fan Rating: More than 10 out of 10 | Neutral Rating: 5/10

Pallanadhu - Vidyasagar
What’s it with Vidyasagar and Punjabi songs? This song starts in typical Punjabi Bhangra beats and is another in the list of energetic songs of the album. A song that will be lapped up by the youth, Vidyasagar again keeps us hooked with his excellent instrumentation and background musical stuff. Lyrics like “Unnoda than Nambiar, en ulla naan MGR” are perfectly aimed at the frontbenchers. A few sprinkling of Punjabi lyrics like “Nachle”, “Kudiye” add the required flavor to the song. The “En Vaadhiyar Superstar” line acts like a tribute by Vijay to Rajnikanth and should also attract heavy whistles in the theatres.Up: Youthful, and focuses on entertaining the audience Down: Not much…. Although the Punjabi flavor could be toned down a little bitVijay Fan Rating: 9.5/10 | Neutral Rating: 7.5/10

Theme Music - Praveen Mani
A different style of theme music being adopted by Dharani/Vidyasagar. A few parts in between can remind you of “Kabaddi Kabaddi” from Ghilli but this is a totally different style of theme music that could fit the film well. The lyrics rock and will be instantly liked by Vijay’s fans. The rap style fits well with the song and makes it more entertaining. Excellent instrumentation by Vidyasagar. “Nongu eduthurukkaaru”. Again, the flow of the song is inconsistent but it adds more hype and excitement to the fans when listening to it. Excellent and speedy ending to the song which is a fitting way to finish it.Up: Rocking background for a mass hero… StylishDown: Can’t think of any Vijay Fan Rating: 10/10 | Neutral Rating: 7/10

Vijay means “Victory”
He has just been amazing all throughout his career. Starting from Naalaya Theerpu, getting through the likes of Rasigan, Deva, and others through to Poove Unakkaga, Kadaluku Mariyadhai, Kushi, Priyamanavale and then onto Thirumalai, Ghilli, Thirupachi, Sivakaasi, Pokkiri and now KURUVI. Vijay has gradually reached a position where no one can shake him, but only by himself.Vijay’s KURUVI has taken a bumper opening all over the world. Since this film comes from the cracking combination of Vijay, Dharani, Trisha and Vidyasagar, the film carries inevitable comparisons with the combo’s previous film Ghilli which is called as Vijay’s landmark film. The reports have suggested that the film doesnt quite match up to the standards of Ghilli. But nevertheless, the fans have been going ecstatic with Vijay and his performance, especially his sensational dancing which has set the screen on fire. He has also been complemented superbly by Vivek in the comedy department with Trisha and others giving adequate aid. Producer Udayanidhi Stalin makes a thundering start and is said to have produced the film in a very grand manner. The film has opened to a mixed response, but speaking frankly, tell me one recent Vijay film that hasnt opened to such a mixed response? His films are meant to entertain his fans who love his style of movie making and naturally such style of movies will its share of critics. In this film directed by Dharani, Vijay again plays to the gallery mixing his usual firebrand style of entertainment combining comedy, action, dance, glamour and sentiments bringing together a very heady cocktail of pure unadulterated entertainment. The reports from the distributors and the theatre owners have been very impressive for the first weekend. Of course any film’s real success lies in its ability to run for long periods of time and attracting all types of audience. But KURUVI has embarked on this mission in grand style, and the fans are confident that KURUVI will be another grand success for Vijay and will add to his enviable list of hit films.VFN congragulates the Kuruvi team for crossing the first hurdle. We wish them more success and hope that KURUVI goes on to become a big blockbuster.

Vijay on Top " 3 "
He is the man of the masses. He has nearly perfected the art of entertaining people with dialogues, songs & dances, and an equal number of fights. Playing Vijaykanth’s younger brother in Senthoora Pandi put him in favor with Captain’s fans. The openings that his movies take are truly astonishing. His movies sell like hot cakes as soon as they are announced. His movies are almost sure of collecting a minimum amount from theatres (Minimum Guarantee). He is paid nearly 3 crores a movie and is also given the distribution rights for some areas - a testimony to the guarantee of success that he brings. The budget for a Vijay movie is somewhere between 7 and 7.5 crores. They sell at a price of close to 11 crores. These are the figures that have been collected since the release of Pokkiri which is turning out to be a big hit.Salary: 3 CroresThere is no need to write much about this man. He is a phenomenon by himself. He knows everything that an actor and film maker needs to know. He is the quintessential expert on movies. What he does on screen is the next lesson in acting for all lesser actors. There were some very adventurous people who had questioned his box office fire power. Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu seems to have sent them running for cover. He is now readying Dasaavataram for a grand release. The budget of a Kamal movie is subject to the cast, crew, director and storyline. If the idea is worth it, then no producer will hesitate in sanctioning a mammoth budget. Dasavataaram is being made on nothing less than 35 crores. A normal Kamal movie may however be made at around 10 crores and will surely sell at close to 15 crores. Testimony to the fact that his movies are undisputedly Minimum Guarantee. His pay, well it may be 5 crores cheque along with a share of the business of the movie.

Vijay surprised by Dhoni
Vijay and Dhoni have found a fan in each other! Before Vijay was to meet the star cricketer, he thought, “I was feeling like - I am going to meet a big cricket captain - but he was so down-to-earth. He said, ‘Hey I know you, I’ve seen you on TV’, and he made me feel so very comfortable.” Dhoni responded by saying, “He’s a great guy, I’ve met him just once during the launch function. It’ll be interesting to know him better and of course the film industry here too – that’ll be a relaxing time.”The Chennai Superkings take on Mumbai Indians today. As IPL Chennai’s brand ambassador Vijay is confident of a spectacular turn out. “Definitely all my fans will come – they are all cricket lovers too so they’ll definitely come and cheer the team. Besides my support, the team will also have my fans’ support. “I saw the Mohali match. We’ve taken 250 runs which no other team’s got so far – ours is a strong team that can win under any circumstances – my mind’s totally in tomorrow’s match,” he said at a press conference yesterday. With two stars, one from cinema and one from cricket, to cheer the team and lead the team, respectively, today’s match will be special treat for fans of Dhoni and Vijay.

KURUVI MOVIE REVIEW
Director Dharani’s earlier project Ghilli with Vijay and Trisha was a blockbuster victory that had set some kind of fast paced mood, tempo and expectations about this duo in the minds of their fans. They entered the theatre this evening eagerly to catch this maiden production venture of Udhaynidhi Stalin’s Red Giants Movies - produced Kuruvi. The secrecy shrouding the story of the film had also helped in escalating its anticipations to a barometric high.Scaling high-rise buildings, bowing down to bullets elegantly, Kuruvi opens with Vijay in his best nonchalant style, sending his fans into raptures. If the same care and hard work that had gone into rendering a weighty build up for Vijay had also been employed in the story department, it would have been a Ghilli-like encore for this team. As it happens, Kuruvi flies short of Ghilli. Vijay having to free his father and his colleagues who have been trapped as slaves under villains Ashish Vidyarthi and Suman forms the crux of Kuruvi. The director has attempted to ride on the twin horses of action and comedy, moving the film at a very rapid pace, while simultaneously depicting Vijay at his humorous best. However, his objective seems to be too elusive and the film sags at various levels. Ashish Vidyarthi and Suman (Sivaji fame) are compatriots in the quarry business who have given out a contract to Vijay’s dad, Manivannan, in Cudappa, Andhra Pradesh. Diamonds that are otherwise only found in Africa are said to be located in this area, but the government issues a ban to excavate the place owing to the risk of earthquakes. But the baddies force Manivannan to go against the law and make him and his group bonded laborers. Manivannan challenges the villains that his son would avenge him once he learns of this. But Vijay, who is in Chennai, thinks that his dad has gone under cover due to debts and is hopeful of his return one day. Meanwhile, a cheque for 50 lakhs that Manivannan had issued as collateral towards the house, bounces-forcing Vijay to vacate their house. Vijay asks the landlords a week’s time to pay back the money and sets out on a mission to Malaysia to find the person whose signature is on the cheque. He travels to Malaysia as a kuruvi- one who is used as a runner to carry and bring back goods. There he runs into Suman’s residence. A scuffle with him results in Vijay stealing Suman’s diamond in a Zorro-like costume which leaves Trisha,-Suman’s sister, in a mesmerizing trance. She promptly falls in love. Along with her brother, she lands in Chennai in search of Vijay. Each of them search, but with different objectives. How the lead stars reach their respective goals forms the rest of the story.Producer Udhaynidhi has spent generously which is perceptible in the lavish sets, colorful junior artists, graphics etc. Dharani’s favorite music composer Vidyasagar’s tunes are already a hit and the melodious ‘then then’ number is a revelation, both visually and acoustically. Trisha is at her glamorous best. Ashish Vidyarthi and Suman do not have meaty enough roles to prove their mettle. Camera work and editing is slick. Vivek, who accompanies Vijay, provides occasional comic relief. If you go to see Kuruvi with lowered expectations, you may end up liking it. But those who are looking for big build-up sequences and large Ghilli-like payoffs - stay away.
